Dance

Introduction

At Chasing Gravity Dance Academy, we are dedicated to fostering a love for dance while emphasizing technical excellence and skill development. Operating within a gymnastics facility, our mission goes beyond teaching dance steps; we aim to equip our students with fundamental movement techniques that are essential across various sports and disciplines. Our curriculum focuses on providing structured, level-based instruction to ensure each student learns with precision and progression. We believe that the skills acquired through dance—discipline, coordination, and expression—not only enhance performance in other sports but also prepare our students for lifelong success, regardless of their future paths. At the heart of our mission is the commitment to nurturing confident, well-rounded individuals who carry their dance experience with them, benefiting from its lessons long after their dancing days.

Summer classes are available through August before we switch over to our school year session.

Registration for 2025-2026 School Year starting June 2nd!

Can my dancer wear only socks to class (no shoes)?
Answer: We will only allow socks-only for dancers who are doing a trial class. Once committed to the class dancers must be wearing proper shoes to class as listed above.

What is the penalty if dancers show up not following class attire standards?
Answer: If it is the first week of class then they get a pass. After that they will get one week where they are reminded of the class attire standards. Following the reminder we will ask the dancer to sit and watch class (we will provide them paper so they can take notes).

Can my dancer have her hair braided back or half up?
Answer: Outside of ballet, hair may be braided back so long as it is secure and the dancer is not distracted by it falling out during their class. Half-up is okay for genres other than ballet if the majority is pulled out of their face.

Can my dancer wear only a sports bra to class?
Answer: No. We will not allow dancers to wear only a sports bra, however, crop-tops that fall lower on the torso are allowed.

Why do we follow these class attire standards?
Answer: For a couple of reasons.
1. A neat and tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness and respect for the students, teacher and the art of dance. How a dancer feels will affect how they dance.
2. Teachers must be able to see the dancer’s body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.
3. We want to focus on class not on what people are wearing or distracted by clothes/hair.

Online
Enrollment
Classes will start in September each year until the end of May or beginning of June for our school year session. The last day we will take new students is the end of January. During the summer we will offer a short session and camps for those that wish to continue their dancing.

Tuition
You will have an option to sign up and pay for the full school year in September in order to receive a discount or to pay monthly for classes. If you enroll after September then you will automatically be on the monthly billing schedule. Tuition secures your dancer’s spot in class and is not based on attendance. Missed classes are not eligible for credit or refund.

Dress Code
We require students to be dressed in a way that ensures safety and supports correct technique. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum amount and hair should be pulled up. Students not in proper attire may be asked to observe class instead of participating.

Recitals
The majority of our dance classes are required to participate in the recital at the end of the year. Upon registering for a class a non-refundable fee will be charged to each family for the recital which includes their costume and 5 tickets to the show. Additional tickets may be purchased, depending on space. Classes that will not perform in the recitals will be indicated in the class description.

Observation
Parents are welcome to sit in our special dance class seating section to watch class. Please do not open the dance room door after class has started. Please notify the front office if a child will need to leave early or will be arriving late.

Closures
We will be closed during the school year on the following holidays:
  • Halloween
  • Wednesday-Saturday for Thanksgiving
  • Two weeks of winter break
  • One week for spring break
  • Memorial day

We will be closed for the 4th of July for our summer session.

Attendance
If your dancer must miss a class, please let us know in advance whenever possible. Dancers arriving more than 10 minutes late may be asked to observe for safety reasons, as proper warm-up is essential to prevent injury.
Consistent attendance is especially important in the weeks leading up to performances. Excessive absences may result in limited participation in choreography or performances at the instructor’s discretion.

Drop policy
Dance classes run in sessions, and each enrollment includes a designated end date. If you choose to withdraw before the end of the session, a $30 drop fee per class will be automatically charged to the card on file. To process an early drop you must do so on our customer portal and notice must be submitted by the 15th of your final month in the program. Drops submitted after the 15th will still be charged for the upcoming month. If you received a discount for paying the full school-year session in advance and choose to withdraw early, your charges will be recalculated based on the regular monthly tuition rate. Recital fees are non-refundable

Classroom Limits
Classroom limit is 12 for ages 3-5 and 16 for ages 6 and up. Our dance with me program will be 10 kids and their adults.

Priority registration
Families currently enrolled will get priority registration before classes open up to the public to sign up. A $35 non-refundable deposit will be required to hold that spot and then will be applied to your first month's tuition.

Move ups
We will do official move ups in the spring each year but our teachers will be watching students to ensure they are placed in the best class for their skill level.

Let your child's imagination take center stage in our Creative Movement Dance Class. This class introduces the fundamentals of dance through playful exploration, music, and games. Children will develop coordination, rhythm, balance, and body awareness while learning how to express themselves through movement. They will be introduced to basic elements of different dance styles such as Ballet, Jazz, and Hip-Hop.

Ballet - Ages 3-5 and 6+

Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles and is essential for developing strong technique, alignment, and artistry. In this class, dancers will build core strength, flexibility, turnout, and proper body placement while learning classical ballet vocabulary and positions. Emphasis is placed on correct posture, body lines, and the coordination of arms and legs to create fluid, intentional movement.

Through structured barre work, center combinations, and across-the-floor progressions, students will improve balance, control, and grace—key elements that support not only dance performance but also other disciplines such as other styles of dance and gymnastics. Ballet enhances discipline, musicality, and spatial awareness, and our teachers foster a fun, encouraging environment that keeps dancers engaged and inspired.

Hip Hop - Ages 3-5 and 6+

This hard hitting and powerful form of dance allows students of all ages to enjoy letting loose while learning body isolation and coordination using age appropriate popular songs and choreography.

Jazz - Ages 3-5 and 6+
